Telluride Foundation recognizes the work of Haven House

In their most recent newsletter, The Telluride Foundation recognized the work of Haven House!

“Nonprofit Corner: Haven House

Haven House is a faith based non-profit that provides temporary housing and wrap around services to families and their children in Southwest Colorado. Haven House prevents homelessness with their Transitional Housing and Career Development Programs by providing hope, shelter, guidance, counseling and support programs designed to help those families get back into permanent housing on a path to self-sufficiency. Haven House helps the children of these families with their Child Development and Early Childhood Programs, keeping children in school and teaching their parents how to be nurturing and constructive supporters of their child’s social, physical and academic development.

The Telluride Foundation recognizes the hard work of Haven House and the pressing needs it responds to. In 2019 Haven House expects to provide over 19,000 shelter nights, an increase of 15% from 2018. Presently, there are 71 participants living at Haven House, including 47 children, compared to the 41 participants (including 20 children) at the end of August last year. As a nonprofit, Haven House is dependent on the support of the community to continue service to the homeless. Less than 10% of their funding comes from government sources; the remainder comes from individuals, businesses, churches and foundations such as the Telluride Foundation. 2018 Tri-State Toy Run

View the video below to see some very heartwarming images of Christmas in action. The motorcycle riders from around the area road to Haven House on December 8th to deliver the coat, clothes and toys that were donated by so many generous people. The families loved the gifts and the smiles on the children’s faces says it all. Of course the smiles on the rider’s faces spoke volumes too. It was a great day for everyone!

Altrusa of Montrose brings makeover to every family!

All of the suites at Haven House received makeovers from the generous people of Altrusa Montrose. They provided new bedding, curtains, towels and rugs to bring a new “homey” feel to the families living there. It was a wonderful day of hard work, fun and blessings from these lovely people. Thank you so much!

Altrusa of Montrose, Altrusa of Delta, Heirlooms for Hospice and the Colorado Lions Club and contributed to the wonderful makeovers!

It is hard to express just how much the makeovers meant to the families at Haven House, but this smile certainly says a lot!

All the beds and the private baths received new items. The Participants of the Haven House program were over-joyed.

Parents have adjoining bedrooms to their kids room separated by a private bath for the family.

It was a beautiful day for golf, spirits were high and the turnout was the maximum number of golfers allowed. Our thanks to everyone that played, attended the Silent Auction and especially the volunteers that worked so hard and the Participants from Haven House that provided such wonderful food.

The Participants at Haven House took time from their schedule this month to volunteer at the Sharing Ministries Food Bank. Both the adults and children enjoyed the hard work and the feeling of helping others. As life becomes more stable for families, they become more aware of being a blessing to others. The transformation process takes time and Participants can live at Haven House for 24 months while they achieve their short and long term goals.

Rain Can’t Dampen the Golfer Spirit!

Our 2nd Annual Golf Scramble was a big success even though it rained most of the morning. Golfers kept their commitment to the tournament and many played the entire course. With food and hot drinks in the clubhouse to re-energize the golfers and the many Silent Auction items to pa-ruse, the spirit of helping the homeless families shined through. Thanks to everyone that supported this event, our biggest fundraiser of the year!
